One of my favorite sayings ever has to be, "two heads are better than one." To many the definition simply means that it is better for two people to solve a problem than just one individual. While that is true, to me the saying justifies the fact that in life, a couple trumps a singular entity every time.
In terms of relationships there is no difference. It is better to be with someone than to stand alone. Freedom is great, but to share that freedom with a companion makes life more enjoyable.
While independent "players of the field" may argue that it is better to be single, I don't totally disagree, it is great to have options, but when the interview process is complete and a candidate has been chosen, that is when the fun truly begins.
The process of sharing your life with someone, and vice versa, is rewarding to both parties. Being in a committed relationship is one of life's great adventures: two people sharing a common bond progressing toward something greater, blind to what is ahead of them. Like an ongoing story filled with plot changes, drama, adventure and excitement, who can actually say they hate a good love story? Whether it is Romeo and Juliet or The Notebook, a committed relationship is worth the risk.
Even after marriage, or when significant time has passed in the relationship, the adventures of life still remain. The journey can be hard at times, but what better person to go through the trials and tribulations than your loved one. your best critic, advisor, confidant, friend and foe?
Surely the members of single society have assistance in times of hardships, but everyone has aspects of their lives they can't share with the closest of family and friends, and it is very expensive to seek counsel from strangers with degrees. While there isn't anyone in the world that has "walked a mile in your shoes," where can a person find better help than someone following the same path?
Simply talk with people in relationships and ask the secrets of their success. Communication, sacrifice, compromise, honesty and trust may be some top answers. All are different aspects of sharing or have to be shared in order for a good relationship to exist.
After all, we are just puppets in this play of life, but a puppet with no strings attached is lifeless.
