After the departure of former governing member Stephen Murphy, it was left to the remaining members of the SCC Board of Trustees to fill those shoes in a timely fashion, and fill them they did.

"We are very fortunate that a large number of community members stepped forward to serve the college," said President-Superintendent Dr. Robert Jensen. "The board and I are confident that Trustee Sarah Chapman will serve the needs of the college district, the students we serve and the area she represents."

Sarah E. Chapman was appointed by the board of trustees to represent Area One, which includes Vacaville, Dixon and Winters, during a special meeting on April 27.

Chapman brings to the job her extensive resume, which include directorial positions with First Step of Upper Solano County, Inc., the Solano Valley Alumni chapter of the Delta Sigma Sorority, the board of Solano County Coalition For Better Health, and a seat on the Vacaville School District governing board. She also has a master's degree in public administration and human resource management, a bachelor's degree in business administration and accounting and is working to complete a doctorate in public policy management. She even has an associate's degree in shipbuilding.

From being a journeyman machinist to a governing board member, Chapman seems to have run the gamut and she believes it's this experience that will serve her best in her work as a trustee. "I feel that all my learning through the years, and my experience gained, has prepared me for this position and any other positions I hold," said Chapman.

Despite her extensive educational background, she still considers herself a student at heart. "There is no end to learning," she said. "When you stop learning, that's when you need to retire."

Her favorite part of the job, she said, is just working with people. "I just love people, and I love the ability to be out there working with people all the time."

While Chapman may seems superhuman with the extent of her works and accomplishments, the answer she gave, when asked what super power she wanted to have, made her seem human. "If I could have one super power, I would want to be able to instill knowledge in everyone," said Chapman, "I would want to be able to make sure everyone is always on the same page with one another."
