Almost without notice, Solano community college changed its registration priority sequence, pushing students who formerly had priority 1 registration further down the list. The change leaves some students wondering if registering later will make their stay at SCC longer than anticipated.

The Cosmo Girls stormed the 1400 building during Alpha Gamma Sigma's voting week and filled the ballot box with votes of confidence for the person they felt should win adjunct teacher of the year.

Renza Nassab, part-time cosmetology instructor, won.

The school year is drawing to a close, and SCC employees are still in the midst of contract negotiations with the governing board. All three unions representing college employees have banded together, hoping to expedite a satisfactory healthcare offer from the district.

Graduation will be moving to football field

In a move that has inspired rejoicing among the ranks of this year's graduating class, the commencement ceremony will not be held in the warm and confined space of the gymnasium, but rather, at the football field.

Make sure to show your support for all 553 graduates by attending the ceremony, which begins at 4 p.

New registration process a breeze

"My Solano; search and register for classes, get schedules, grades and more," is the message that greets students who visit the Solano Community College Web site.

The new site, powered by Banner, offers students a lot more amenities than the former Legacy system software did, like the ability to register for classes even after your initial priority registration date.

Solano celebrates Cinco de Mayo

On May 5, the ethnic studies program hosted a Cinco de Mayo celebration that featured Mexican food and music provided by DJ Latin Soul and live band Trio Los Lobos, who performed traditional Mexican music. The event marks Solano community college's first-ever Cinco de Mayo celebration.

Baseball advances with nail-biting wins

It seems like the fun never stops for Solano Falcons baseball.

They beat the Diablo Valley Vikings in a best-of-three series over the last weekend, with all games being decided by one run.

The Falcons won the first game 9-8 in dramatic fashion, overcoming a two-run deficit in the bottom of the ninth inning.

When I came home from work Sunday night, I was tired and knew my project for English class was due in the morning. I decided to flip on the TV and watch the end of the San Jose Sharks-Dallas Stars game before sitting in front of the PC. The game was at the end of the first overtime when I tuned in.

Softball eliminated from playoffs, eight players leaving

The Solano Falcons softball team was eliminated from round 1 of the Northern California regional playoffs by Ohlone College of Fremont. They won the best-of-three series with wins of 4-3 and 12-4 during the weekend of May 3 at the Ohlone softball complex.

Fahlstrom places 16th at state finals

Solano Falcons male swimmer Todd Fahlstrom placed 16th in the 400 meter individual medley at the recent state championship swimming meet. He timed in at 4:33.76 in the consolation finishing last in the preliminaries and consolation races.

Fahlstrom faced stiff competition according to head coach Scott Parrish.

In a recent newsletter circulated campus-wide, it was announced in grandiose fashion and all-caps type that several of the winners of the student government elections ran "unapposed." Accompanied by several other front-page errors, this blatant neglect of Microsoft Word's spell-check function brought to my attention, yet again, that there is something seriously wrong with the education in this country.

I've spent two years in the SCC Bookstore, my older brother worked around three years at Target and a toy store, and my best friend works at Michaels. Each of us has come to a conclusion regarding customers; the majority are nice and cordial, but there's a portion that are downright abusive to retail employees; just one in 20 that will walk in and treat the employees like rugs.
