John Mark Karr will be released from jail as prosecutors have dropped the misdemeanor possession of child pornography charges against him.
Karr had confessed to the decade-old killing of JonBenet Ramsey. He was arrested in Thailand, and extradited to Colorado, where his confession was proven to be false. Karr was extradited to California to face the possession charges stemming from his arrest in 2001.
The Sonoma County Sheriff issued a statement that said the district attorney was requesting a dismissal of charges against Karr as "new information" prevented prosecutors from proving the charges "beyond a reasonable doubt."
The Sonoma County district attorney's office declined to comment.
In a written statement, Sonoma County Sheriff Bob Cogbill expressed his concern about the way evidence in the case was handled.
"We do acknowledge there were some performance issues five years ago when we worked this case," Cogbill said.
"We're conducting an internal affairs investigation into these issues, and we're continuing an audit of our evidence handling procedures."

Well, I could see this one coming a mile away. Do you suppose he'll file a lawsuit?
