Solano was able to solidify their second place position with a 62-54 win over Yuba City. In turn they were able to clinch a playoff berth.
In the first half, Solano was able to apply a lot of pressure with a 3/4 court trap and rotate defense, which forced nine first half turnovers.
The game stayed close early, due to Solano being unable to score effectively against Yuba's zone defense. It didn't last long, though.
Solano began to get excellent ball movement and began to drain three pointers from all over the court. The Falcons netted five three- point shots in the first half alone.
Their potent defensive pressure accompanied with their exceptional perimeter shooting gave Solano an early lead, and they never looked back.
Yuba City did out score Solano in the second half, but the falcons never let them get too close.
Solano sophomore Deanna Mayfield led the Falcons with 16 total points, and sophomore Shanna Holmes contributed with 14 points.
Because of how many points she scored, Mayfield found herself in an unfamiliar situation.
"I have never been in this position before. As far as being the leading scorer and being one of the team's top leaders on the court," she said.
With the Falcons heading toward the end of the season and into the playoffs, the players seemed to be determined.
Mayfield said, "I'm happy that we are going to make playoffs and I do not want to lose in the first round again like last year. I will do whatever I can to make sure that doesn't happen."
