The next building scheduled for renovation is none other than the 1400 building, which the ASSC, Cafeteria, and Bookstore call home. This much is common knowledge, but what about specific details?
While final plans will most likely have minor changes, the current projected layout as of November 2006, according to Bookstore Manager Jeff Yterdal, is almost entirely what's going to change. According to this blueprint, the bookstore will be staying where it's at and the only changes will be a significant amount of interior renovation with no real increase in size.
The same goes for Fresh & Natural and the cafeteria; both will remain roughly the same size, with major to minor renovations on interior details such as flooring, ceilings, and walls.
As far as major changes go, the ASSC (who are funding a large portion of the renovation) will be expanding their offices significantly, including a new club room that "will be accessible to 35 clubs, and will be a work area for the clubs," according to Shirley Lewis, director of student services.
To go along with this new club room, the ASSC will also get a "state-of-the-art conference room that folks in the lobby will be able to see what's going on because of a glass wall," says Lewis. The room will also come equipped with a large screen projector for presentations and such.
On top of this, the faculty will get their own add-on, which will house a brand spanking new dining room for them. And the Tempest gets booted over to the 1800 building, specifically 1800B, to make room for an expanded nursing station that will house two actual waiting rooms.
This is the official stuff, but what are students hoping for? The general consensus is wireless internet hookup, akin to the 500 buildings capability, and better seats, akin to booths you might find at restaurants.
With wireless internet capability, this would allow students to look up important information while they're eating, or just generally surf the web while on their lunch without going to the computer lab or library.
The renovation has been pushed back to a tentative date of September of this year, so it will be happening sooner rather than later. While the renovation is going on, the bookstore will be moving, though as to where? That's still being looked into.
