While heading home around 5pm On Monday, Aug 27, student development coordinator Shirley Lewis noted the disappearance of a change machine. However, the incident would not be reported as theft till Tuesday, Aug 28.

"When I saw it missing, I thought the company that owned it had taken it for maintenance or some reason," she said.

Upon returning to work the next morning, Lewis had her assistant Rose Orrmans, contact the company that supplies the machine for the SCC campus asking her "to find out why they took it and when they're bringing it back."

A short while later she found the company had nothing to do with its removal and Orrmans immediately reported the theft to the campus police department.

Upon reviewing the theft report Chief Steven J. Dawson revealed that the machine, which stood fixed to the wall between the video games in the cafeteria, had been drilled clear and the bolts had been cut.

The machine, which stands approximately 5 feet high and 3 inches wide, is awaiting the company confirmation on its worth Dawson said us that minor evidence has been collected from the scene.

"There's no window or time frame," states Dawson. However, he says that most campus thefts happen mid-day when it's busy. "Nobody's paying attention," he said.

If you have any information regarding this case, contact the campus police department,
or call the student development center at 864-7168.
