The new $22.3 million dollar Vallejo center which had its ribbon cutting Sept. 15, will officially be opening its doors to students Oct. 15.

The center, an extension of Solano Community College, will offer a variety of late-start classes for students who may have had trouble enrolling in classes at SCC's main campus.

"I think it's great," says business major Christoph Cleveland.

"It gives all those kids a chance to enroll because they were hesitant or whatever their circumstances were for not enrolling on time."

Located at 545 Columbus Parkway, just around the corner from Costco and other major department stores, the new building will provide convenient freeway access.

The Measure G-funded project is expected to serve 3,000 students who may not have had the resources to attend SCC's main campus.

Many of the classes that will be offered at the new Vallejo center are classes that prove to be popular like math, english, business and many more.

In hopes of reaching out to all the communities it serves, including Benicia.

The two story center has added classes such as art and will have faculty office as well as student and administration services located within the center.

The classrooms are equipped with technology that will for the first time allow all lecture and lab spaces in Vallejo to connect to the World Wide Web and other up-to-date media sources often used to help reiterate classroom lectures.

Some other features of the new "state of the art" center include a science and learning lab which will prove to be an asset for transferring students who need to meet lab requirements.

There is also a multi-purpose room which will serve as a gym, theatre and dance space.

Erique Gigan, Associated Students math and science senator feels "those kids are lucky, the Vallejo center is really nice."
