The move toward environmentally minded or "green" construction has moved well away from the fringes of society. These days, green methods routinely go into the building and long-term maintenance of banks and offices. These sites address the subject.
___
EPA GREEN
The Environmental Protection Agency offers a primer on going green, including details on green-building priorities such as "water stewardship," waste reduction and energy efficiency. Pages on constructing or retrofitting commercial buildings link to articles and publications on improving workers' air quality, and lists of water-saving device manufacturers.

GREEN TV
This Web site is a companion to a TV show about building an environmentally friendly house. We haven't seen the program, but no matter. You can view video clips, and look around at all the suggestions for saving energy, literally from the ground up. The blog-style home page has regular postings about innovations such as houses in the Netherlands that float in a flood, and money-saving ways to build green.

OPEN DIRECTORY
Our search for "building green" at the Web site of the Open Directory Project delivers a page of human-selected, as opposed to indiscriminate search-engine-generated, links for sites on sustainable architecture, green-building concepts, and resource groups dedicated to the idea. The ambitious directory project solicits editors to oversee such link collections in subject areas that interest them.

___
PANGEA PARTNERS
Pangea is the name given the earth's presumed original single-continent landmass. The group seeks to lead "development tourists" to take part in workshops on sustainable construction in developing nations. For an idea of what the group is up to, from the home page you can view an animation showing how to construct a rather clever, insulated building from bales of straw. What are you doing on your next vacation?
