The move toward environmentally minded or "green" construction has moved well away from the fringes of society. These days, green methods routinely go into the building and long-term maintenance of banks and offices. These sites address the subject.

The Environmental Protection Agency offers a primer on going green, including details on green-building priorities such as "water stewardship," waste reduction and energy efficiency. Pages on constructing or retrofitting commercial buildings link to articles and publications on improving workers' air quality, and lists of water-saving device manufacturers.

This Web site is a companion to a TV show about building an environmentally friendly house. We haven't seen the program, but no matter. You can view video clips, and look around at all the suggestions for saving energy, literally from the ground up. The blog-style home page has regular postings about innovations such as houses in the Netherlands that float in a flood, and money-saving ways to build green.
