Lynn Nottage's award-winning story shows this transformation of America eloquently. She also shows the race, class, and social barriers through the main character, Esther, an African-American seamstress who will be played by Karen Aldridge. All other parts are waiting to be cast.
Director Robin Stanton said, "This play creates an incredible portrati of a woman who has spent her life serving others in a racist environment. She is bound and determined to rise above circumstances. Her heroic efforts are undermined by those whose own greed would destroy her dreams."
Stanton, an award-winning director from Chicago, was invited by managing director Chris Guptill and artistic director George Maguire to direct this play and to permanently direct the children's youth theater department.
