Calling all actors to audition for an interesting multi-faceted period piece placed at the beginning of the 20th century. The beginning of the Industrial Revolution, a time of many advancements in our culture, the Wright Brother, immigrants coming to American via Ellis Island, the Panama Canal...

Lynn Nottage's award-winning story shows this transformation of America eloquently. She also shows the race, class, and social barriers through the main character, Esther, an African-American seamstress who will be played by Karen Aldridge. All other parts are waiting to be cast.

Director Robin Stanton said, "This play creates an incredible portrati of a woman who has spent her life serving others in a racist environment. She is bound and determined to rise above circumstances. Her heroic efforts are undermined by those whose own greed would destroy her dreams."

Stanton, an award-winning director from Chicago, was invited by managing director Chris Guptill and artistic director George Maguire to direct this play and to permanently direct the children's youth theater department.

Auditions are Nov. 7 and 8 from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Harbor Theatre, 720 Main ST., Suisun. Callbacks will be Nov. 10 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Rehearsal begins mid-January and performances run from Feb. 21 to March 9. To schedule an audition appointment, call Solano College Theatre production offices at 707.864.7199.

Sides are available in advance through the SCC theater production office. Each side consists of two scenes per character with a rehearsal reader provided for the auditions. The callbacks consist of pairings of actors from the audition sides provided.
