The crowds were sparse in the cafeteria on October 10, 2007 as Blood Centers of the Pacific were there to receive blood.

The few that were there have given blood before.

"Just once before, said Lucas Hoffman, 19, biology major.

In fact, two donators have given blood a combined nine times, with Andrea Catl giving blood 6 times and Chris Aguilera giving blood 3 times.

But for the few who were present, they were there with the best of intentions.

When asked why they were giving blood, "To help people that need it," said Hoffman.

"It's my way of giving back to the community," Catl, 19, psychology major said.

Similar opinions were voiced, "I feel good; charity always makes me feel good," Aguilera, 23, liberal arts said.

Some others donated blood for specific reasons. "It's a good way to detoxify your system," said Chris Aguilera, 23, Liberal Arts major.

The donators were asked to answer 55 questions that determined whether they were fit to donate blood.

When asked about their opinion on why some people aren't giving blood, Catl said, "I think what drives people away are the needles."

Dan Vogelpohl, Mobile Technician for Blood Centers for the Pacific made his third trip to Solano.

He wanted to let the campus know that donations are down. Vogelpohl added, 'For a campus that size, there should be more."

When asked what drives away people from donating, Vogelpohl listed the deterrents, "tattoos and drug use."

Vogelpohl also listed age as a deterrent with several high schools not being able to find donators, with many not being the age of consent of 18.

In fact, high schools have a higher turnout of blood donations than Solano.

When further questioned about the lack of donations, Vogelpohl added, "We will take whatever we can get." Voglelpohl added, "We are open 7 days a week."

"We are grateful and appreciative," Vogelpohl said.

Vogelpohl's parting thoughts about what to say to Solano, "Just thank the students, try to give and bring a friend next time," said Vogelpohl with a smile.
