Want to be pilot for a day, or enjoy a one-week romantic getaway in Hawaii? Well here's your chance, the second annual Solano Community College online auction will be launching Nov. 1 and will run through Nov. 30.

"This year, the plan is to expand and be more inclusive of clubs, departments and divisions and allow them the vehicle to raise money that will benefit their programs," said Charles Shatzer director of the foundation.

The auction is what Shatzer describes as "an easy way for campus programs to raise money for themselves."

People wanting to participate in the auction are asked to pick up forms in the 600 building, have donors fill out the tax receipt and product information questionnaire, and drop the form and donated item back off in the 600 building.

Donors can designate a campus group that the proceeds will benefit. For example, the president of the parenting club, Joanne Staggle, is currently working on packages that may include tickets to Discovery Kingdom and meals to place on the web site.

Christie Speck, faculty advisor of the parenting club, said, "There are so many things the state department of education doesn't provide," and added, "It's a great way to provide support for the curriculum."

She also said fundraising on line "doesn't seem to be as labor intensive."

Shatzer agrees and feels the online auction is a "painless, effective and efficient way to fundraise," and adds that "the foundation does most of the work for you," by providing donation letters with tax receipts. The foundation also pays all credit card, online and web site fees.

Joy Warren, chair of the online auction feels the auction is important because it's bringing more departments and people into contact with each other at the college. She also feels it helps to promote local businesses that provide job opportunities for SCC students.

The way the foundation does this is by placing the businesses logo in front of the auction item for viewers to see as well as including it in a mass mailing and emailing of auction items and information.
