The French Immersion Day is an annual event that has been previously held in the SCC cafeteria building, and includes the French class taught by Lorna Marlow-Munoz, along with classes from Armijo, Justin Siena, Vintage, Will C. Wood, Rodriguez, and Vanden High school.
Every person participating in the event was encouraged to speak in French, and the theme of the event this year was Paris.
Highlights of the six-hour event included comedic skits involving tourists touring Paris, a French cuisine lunch with live music, and an afternoon of dancing, with an emphasis on the tango with Michel Taillant, a tango instructor of 30 years.
The event went from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and the participating students were genuinely enthused with the entire thing, even Chris Doehla from Vintage High school, who had to substitute for a piano player who failed to show. This was his first time, as with many other participants, involved in the event.
For some of the students, this was their second time around, like Steve Hanson and Kory Kolves, from SCC.
In the case of Kolves, his first experience was back in high school, and now in college, while Hanson went the first time as a SCC student, and started taking French in 2005.
By the time this reaches print, Hanson will already be in France and living with a family for three weeks.
