You really should wash your hands in the bathroom

I think your statement "Diagram in a Starbucks restroom signaled the collapse of America" (Oct. 24, 2007) is dramatic.
I don't believe that people really need to be instructed on how to wash their hands, but they might need a reminder. People can pick up numerous bacteria by using commonly shared objects including towels, soaps, benches in hot tubs, and athletic equipment. I recently received a flyer about the newest infection MRSA. It is a "Staph" infection that can be found in schools and jails, as well as some hospitals. This infection is very resistant to many antibiotics.
Washing your hands often is one way to avoid getting and spreading this infection. Many people are so busy in their day to day lives that sometimes washing their hands may get overlooked. If you have ever found yourself sick after eating out, you might wonder if it was the food you ate or the person who made it, that made you ill. Many companies today are required by law to post these signs, so workers have no excuse as to why they didn't wash their hands.
Companies also post these signs, to protect them in a lawsuit, the worker could say, "Hey, there was no sign to tell me to wash my hands." This may seem important to some compared to how to end the war or the value of a dollar. The public needs to be aware of the potential risk to others by not washing your hands.
