A student scavenger hunt with these and other prizes will be just one of the perks at the grand opening of the Student Services Center on Feb. 6.
All students are invited to the newly constructed 400 building between 9 a.m. and noon or 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. to participate in the scavenger hunt, take a tour of the building, and enjoy complimentary refreshments. Between noon and 1 p.m., all attendees are welcomed to the building's official ribbon cutting ceremony, at which the Governing Board will be present.
"Students hopefully will learn more about the support and programs we have on campus," said Lisa Waits, Vice President of Student Services. "We have excellent faculty and staff."
Open since the start of the semester, the Student Services Center is home to the Admissions and Records, Counseling, and Financial Aid departments, staff offices, several conference rooms, and six classrooms, along with many other student resources.
"The scavenger hunt is the big thing we're really hoping students can get excited about," said Waits. "We're giving away great prizes to really direct students and familiarize them with where all the offices and departments are."
Possibly the most exciting of the hunt's numerous giveaways are the textbook refunds. The SCC bookstore is partnering with Student Services to issue four refunds to students for their spring 2008 textbooks - up to $750. Students need not be present to win after they finish the scavenger hunt, but must present original purchase receipts to the bookstore to obtain their refunds.
"We want students to come through the building," said Waits. "They can't lose!"
