Baseball sees to repeat as BVC champs again in 2008

The defending BVC-champion (32-12) Solano College baseball team had started the season 2-0 with wins against Monterey Peninsula College 12-1, and American River College, but hit several snags.
The Falcons lost the next game to American River 7-5, won only the middle game of a three-game series to San Mateo 8-2 (lost the first and third games) in early February, and was swept by Butte of Oroville.
They have won their last couple of games, beating Diablo Valley 5-4 and winning their first conference game against Mendocino.
"We had a rocky go of it with the rain," said head coach Scott Stover. "The preseason schedule was really tough. Probably one of the tougher schedules in the state."
Several players have stood out this season, especially on the mound. Dustin Crenshaw has started four games for the Falcons, with a record of 2-1 and 1.14 ERA. Chadd Chatfield has made six relief appearances, recording six innings of saved work and three saves with no earned runs allowed. Kris Cole has started three games and has a record of 2-2 and an ERA of 2.50.
On the field and in the batter's box, Ruben Perez is hitting .415 with 24 total bases on the year. Tommy Pavesi is hitting .391 with three home runs and 12 RBI's. Cole has a slugging percentage of .733 with 11 RBI's.
The Falcons play at Los Medanos in Antioch on March 6 at 2:30 p.m. and then play home March 8 against visiting Contra Costa at 1:00 p.m.
