A man was arrested at gunpoint and taken into custody Monday, March 17, at Solano Community College's bus stop, after allegedly waving a gun and threatening students near the 100 building.
Shortly after 10 a.m., 23-year-old Fairfield resident Keith Holbert walked into the 100 building after expressing anger at his girlfriend and other students. Witnesses told police he encountered another student, whom he threatened verbally and with a gun before leaving the vicinity.
Within minutes of Holbert's arrival at the 100 building, the campus police department was informed, and called for aid from the Fairfield Police because of the dangerous nature of the incident. After 20 minutes, the situation ended with Holbert arrest.
"The suspect was taken into custody without incident at the bus stop, and charged with possessing a firearm on a college campus," said SCC's Chief of Police Dawson.
According to Dawson, the incident was the culmination of ongoing domestic violence dispute between Holbert and his girlfriend.
College administration began the process of a campus lockdown, which only had a chance to reach the 100 building, the childcare center, and the 1800 building before the situation ended.
After an extensive grounds search, which included a police canine unit, the alleged weapon was not recovered.
The minimal lockdown procedures that were able to be implemented in such a short time span were carried out efficiently, according to childcare employee Nedra Park.
"It went really well," said Park. "My supervisor said we were on lockdown, so various people were dispatched throughout the building. We got out there, got all the kids in their rooms, and did what we were supposed to do."
Bail is set at $23,333 and his arraignment will be today at 1:30 P.M.
