Spring is knocking on the door, and with it comes warm and sunny days. There are not many better things than enjoying a beautiful spring day, but one item that makes it better is ice cream. Ice cream can make everything short of a rainy day (though that's debatable) better.
With that, 99 Cherry Orchards is a tiny alcove along Rockville Road that has sold baked goods, pies, coffee beans, jam, and honey for the past 15 years, but the best thing about this little gem is the homemade ice cream they've been selling for the last two. Not only that, but it's five minutes from the SCC campus; its convenience is amazing. You can go there, get some ice cream, eat it, and drive back to campus within the span of thirty minutes.
As well as being a place to eat, it has some nice sights as well; off to the left is a small pen of ponies that people can ride on the weekends, in front of the store is an odd statue that came from Fresno (though some bits were added on by the owners), and to the right are geese. A smattering of seating outside the place lets you relax with these sights and a container of ice cream.
The price is fairly affordable: $3.65 for one half pint of ice cream, $4.95 for a full pint, and they top it off with an extra touch; a fresh, crisp, waffle on top. The best part is breaking the waffle into bits and scooping the ice cream out in that fashion.
There is a good selection of flavors as well; Strawberry, cherry, strawberry & cherry vanilla, vanilla apricot, triple berry cherry, plain vanilla, and persimmon cinnamon. Persimmon cinnamon is the best; it may be one of my favorite flavors, and I have a brother that works at Cold Stone Creamery!
What makes it so good is not only the fact the ice cream is made there, but the fruit flavors are derived from the actual fruits; they have cherries and such on hand! You can be guaranteed of freshness of not only the ice cream, but the ingredients as well.
