"He's an outstanding gentleman," said Solano Community College's Superintendent Gerry Fisher who welcomed Stan Arterberry, guest speaker during an Ethnic Students Program presentation on March 4.

Arterberry served as superintendent president at SCC for eight years, making him the second longest serving superintendent in the district.
SCC counselor Ella Tolliver recalled the time Arterberry served as superintendent.

"It was a pleasure and an honor to work under Stan Arterberry. He was a very innovative president and dedicated and committed to both faculty and staff," she said.

Beginning his eight-year reign at SCC in 1994; Arterberry began to work on implementing projects to ensure most of the success many students enjoy today.

One of the many things Arterberry developed during his presidency was the development of the institution's first core mission values. Arterberry also helped to create the strategic plan.

"That belongs to Stan Arterberry," said fisher. "He started it; he got it, look at it," he said encouraging students to look at the wall where the plan still proudly hangs.

"We must always remain focused on what you do, what you need and how to prepare you for the world of tomorrow," [Stan] started that and we've been using it since."

Arterberry was the brains behind the Measure G bond that has funded the building of the new Vallejo Center and the redesigned student's services building as well as the future renovations of the Vacaville Center. Fisher assures students that it did not just happen by chance.

"He worked tirelessly for the successful passage of the voters and that gives you what you need now. I am very privileged to consider him a friend and a mentor," he said.

Now serving as chancellor of West Valley-Mission Community College in Saratoga, Arterberry recalled the 2006 Lionel Ritchie album and said, "I'm Home."

"This is the institution that I find that I feel the most care for the students," said Arterberry adding "I have the greatest relationship with the greatest feel."
