The Solano Community College baseball team's last game seems to be an aberration compared to the rest of their season so far.

The Falcons had won three straight games before losing to Marin 11-5 April 7. Their last win was an 11-2 victory against Mendocino on Saturday April 4. The team has scored double-digit runs in four of the last eight games, with a 24-0 shellacking of Los Medanos March 25 the biggest victory this season.

Coach Scott Stover said that the team's success comes from a combined team effort.

"Pitching's been the biggest thing," Stover said. "We've been hitting when we need to, but the starting pitching has been the biggest key."

Among the three starters, Dustin Crenshaw and Ryan Shook are both 6-1 in 18 appearances combined. Crenshaw has an ERA of 2.16; Shook's is 2.50 while both have their opponents batting less than .250 average. Crenshaw has pitched 58.1 innings compared to Shook's 39.1.

In a dual role, third starter Kris Cole has a 3-4 record with an ERA of 3.86 in 44.1 innings pitched while batting .392 with two home runs and 16 RBI's.

Falcons closer Chadd Chatfield has been stellar in 12 appearances, not allowing a single earned run (0.00 ERA). He has seven saves in 12 innings pitched with opponents hitting .075 against him.

As a team, they have the fifth lowest ERA at 3.34 in Northern California.

The offense features Tommy Pavesi as the main power threat. In 29 games, he's hit 10 home runs, has 46 RBI's to lead Northern California, and is batting with a .459 average. His slugging percentage of .811 is good for second highest in the region, and is in a three-way tie for second in home runs.

Pavesi said that he broke the all-time hits record for Solano Community College on Saturday against Mendocino. He went 3-4 and hit a home run to break the record of 105 hits. He said he's approaching the all-time runs scored and RBI records.

"I'm doing very well swinging the bat right now," said Pavesi. "I've just been trying to get a lot of extra work in by coming out to practice and working hard. My head coach (Stover) has really helped me out with my batting swing."

Other offensive statistics leaders include Josh Sheridan, who's hitting .385 with two home runs and 24 RBI's to his credit. Reuben Perez is batting .339 with four home runs and 23 RBI's.
