An update on the 1700 remodel

The end seems to be almost in sight for the remodeling of the 1700 building. Many P.E. classes, including pilates, yoga, and dance classes, have already been moved into their regular rooms. Weight training and body conditioning classes will be moved into their regular classrooms starting November 22.
Although there have been some setbacks and construction has fallen slightly behind in some areas, Bob Myers, dean of the P.E./Athletics Division, said that "remodeling is pretty much on schedule."
Among these setbacks is a large leak in the southeast corner of the gym, which Myers discovered on Nov. 1.
"I had come in to on check painting done in the gym, when I saw water streaming out of a vent and a large puddle on the floor, said Myers. "We were able to get a contractor out there within two hours and the problem has already been fixed."
The new classrooms have had good responses from teachers.
"The sound systems are excellent and the floors are absolutely beautiful," said Rosa Alcantara, a Solano pilates instructor. "I'm just glad to be out of the tents before the weather had gotten any worse."
The pilates tent collapsed under heavy rains and classes had to be cancelled for a day, but immediately recommenced the following day in the new classrooms.
"I'm grateful that we finally have proper lighting and level floors," said Alcantara. "I'm really proud of Bob Myers for coordinating complaints of instructors and coaches with the construction workers; he has done a great job keeping things together during the remodeling."
A date has not been set for when the locker rooms and team rooms will be released to occupy.
