In a recent meeting, the Governing Board unanimously voted not to extend the appointment of the vice president of administrative and business services. Maize Brewington, has been on a paid leave of absence since Oct. 6, 2008. Her position will become vacant on June 30, 2009.
The college will begin recruiting for the position immediately. Dr. Rich Christensen, director of Human Resources, said that the board had a March 15, deadline to decide on renewing Brewington’s position.
Since she was placed on leave, her duties have been split between Interim Superintendent-President Dr. Lisa Waits and Christensen, with Waits being responsible for the fiscal duties and Christensen taking over for facilities.
According to Christensen the school can begin the recruitment process but will not fill the position until after June 30.
Ross Beck, director of Public Relations, said that “we don’t know if the position of Vice President of Administrative and Business will exist.”
Christensen, also unsure of the positions future existence, said, “What may happen will be a redesigning of the position’s job description.” One of the requirements for Brewington’s potential replacement would be a background in accounting.
With the school’s issues with accreditation and the teachers union, the uncertainty of Maize Brewington’s old position is yet another problem the school will have to fix.
