Ralph and Alison Helms, residents of Vacaville were driving a Ford Ranger on their way home from Sacramento at 3:20 p.m. Sunday April 15, when coming off the freeway at Alamo exit going westbound I-80, the vehicle skid out of control and rolled several times across oncoming traffic and into two parked Kiddy-Academy vans and a tree, according to witnesses.
Dixon resident Ruby Bell was at the scene and witnessed the accident first-hand.
“I heard the skidding of the vehicle as they rounded the turn. They rolled across and into the vans. If the vans weren’t parked here, I would have been hit,” Bell said.
Both Ralph and Alison were taken to Kaiser medical in Vacaville.
“I yelled ‘call 911′ as I went over to ask if they were ok and the lady looked like she was going into a seizure,” Bell said.
The ‘Jaws of Life’ was used to remove the top of the truck as the vehicle was angled on the side of the road, pressed against the two vans and a tree.
