Women strong in preseason

The Falcons volleyball team hosted the Solano Classic on Friday, Sep. 22nd.

The teams attending were Solano, Napa Valley College, Shasta College, and Lassen College.

Solano’s first match, determined by a best of five game series, was against Shasta College. Solano lost 1-3. The first game of this match scored 20-30 in favor of Shasta. The other games of this match went 30-24, Solano; 12-30, Shasta, and 16-30, Shasta.

“We started off slow,” said Lovella Asuncion, a setter for Solano, “We definitely could have done better. Serve-recieve passing was killing us.”

The second match was against Lassen. Solano won three games of this match. The scores for each were: 30-23, 30-13, and 30-19.

“We improved in serve-recieve passing here and were able to run a lot of plays,” Asuncion said.

Some notable Solano players of the tournament were Karlynn Only with 21 kills, Nikki Radonich with 20, Holli De Alba with 14 digs, Christina Tangco with 13, and Katie Van Der Wende with 13. Kills are when a player spikes the ball and scores a point. Digs are when a player scores a point off of a save.

Solano’s volleyball team stands with a preseason record of 7-2.

League play begins at home against Contra Costa College on Sep. 29th.
