Laney College robbed the Solano baseball team of their shot at the Bay Valley Conference title, topping the Falcons 8 – 2  April 24 at Yarbrough Stadium in Fairfield, Calif.

The Falcons never had a chance, trailing Laney from the first inning when Laney first baseman Ellis Stephney hit a solo homerun to left field with two outs.

Then, top of the third, Laney designated hitter Karl Kobler singled past Solano short-stop Danny Mills driving in two, Ronald Jackson who reached base by error and Stephney who singled to left.

In the bottom of the fifth, Falcons Steven Stout singled and drove in Alex Crosby, but not before the play ended. Chad Fortney advanced to third and also scored on an error made by Laney center fielder Rashawn Tillman.

In the top of the seventh, Laney’s Isias Alcantar was hit by a pitch, DH Kobler reached base by an error, followed by Michael Valentin HBP. Kenny Chavez hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Alcantar and later in the inning Cory Hearne doubled driving in Kobler and Valentin also scored on an error made by the Solano infield.

The Solano Falcons (16-7) trail Laney (19-4). Solano will be entering the playoffs, but will be trailing Laney.
