Solano baseball scores first, but falls to Laney 10-5

OAKLAND — Solano Community College,  tied with Los Medanos  for second place in the Bay Valley conference, lost 10-5 to Laney College in the last game of the season Thursday, April 26 in Oakland, Calif.

Solano (16-8) had only three hits the whole game, but scored five runs, four in the top of the ninth.

Solano’s Steven Stout scored the first run in the top of the second on Ryan Wheat’s RBI.

In the bottom of the third, Laney’s Kenny Travis scored on an Ellis Stephany sacrifice fly, then Isias Alcantar hit a homerun for two RBIs also scoring Rashawn Tillman.

Laney (20-4) scored again in the bottom of the fifth, sixth and seventh extending the lead 10 – 1.

Solano attempted a comeback in the top of the ninth.

Anthony Piquit reached base on balls and both Jed Groeneweg and Brian Wilson reached base when hit by a pitch. Beau Siegel singled scoring Piquit, followed by Justin Quilatan flying out for a sacrifice scoring Groeneweg. Jesse Savage reached by error and Wilson scored by error. AJ Borja grounded out for a sacrifice scoring Siegel from third.
